Tebow – The “it” Guy with the X Factor
Some people just have “it.” Call it the X Factor; call it charisma. In the NFL, rookie QB Tim Tebow has “it.” Sports pundits have been waxing rhapsodic about him since he was drafted last April. I saw “it” firsthand on Sunday at Denver, when the Broncos did not beat the Chargers. BUT, when Tebow took over as QB, something “happened.”
Now, I’m a singer, not a football player. So when I watch American Idol, or new this season, The X Factor, I know who can sing and who cannot. I just let the gooseflesh rise up on my arms, and I know. I get a lump in my throat when a singer moves me. It’s unmistakable; I don’t think about it – it just happens. I’m I musician and a singer, and I know when a singer has musicality in his/her voice. But, yesterday, watching Tebow, I got the gooseflesh. It boils down to three “A” words: Attitude (what I’ll call Aura), Action and Ability. These are found in any high achiever.
Tebow’s positive attitude is that of a winner – he can’t lose. It’s on display every time he takes the field. He’s excited all the time. His Aura is that of a good guy. He’s ethical, deep into faith and family, a role model. And Action: his speech to his college team (Florida) before they won the national championship is legendary—millions of hits on YouTube. Last Sunday, on the Denver Broncos sidelines, he never stopped talking to his teammates, urging them on, motivating them. He didn’t rest when his defense was on the field, he’s in there pitching victory. He was electric! As an observer, I saw his teammates perk up to him, come alive on the field. And the fans in the stands? They KNOW. Fans spent hard-earned cash on billboards in the Denver area, urging the Broncos management to play Tebow. They demanded his presence on the field. As for Ability, we have yet to see it, I believe. He needs more practice with his team, and more real games to compete in. You can see he can throw accurately, and he can move with the ball and take it in for a score. We saw both done yesterday for 2 touchdowns. Wouldn’t you know it, just this morning it was announced that he has been named the starting QB. Total X Factor.
So there’s a lesson for us, my friends—the 3 A’s—Attitude (Aura), Action and Ability. You can manage those—you have total control over those—the economy or a jerky boss have nothing to do with it. Just win baby!
